I am a home owner in New York, who has lost power to my house two years in a row, due to hurricanes ( Hurricane Irene and Sandy).   Each time, I have lost power for over a week and a half.   After loosing all of the food in my refrigerator and freezer TWICE, not to mention no heat or hot water for the entire length of both power outages, I finally decided to buy a portable power generator.

I have done an enormous amount of research, as to which genset to buy and everything I needed to hook the portable generator safely to my home.   Now that I have purchased the portable generator, I figured that it would be helpful to share my research in this website, so that others could benefit by it.

In doing so, I wanted to make this site something that I wish I had to reference, when I was looking for my genset.   I finally settled on a Westinghouse Generator and I am quite happy with its performance.

Be prepared that I will be giving my uncensored opinions, presenting the good things as well as the bad, so that anyone researching portable gas generators can make an informed decision to best suit what they need.

I am happy to say that I am prepared the next time the power goes out.  It is my sincere wish that the time I have put into researching which portable gasoline powered generator I should buy, the pros and cons, could help other families that may depend on having electric power in the event of a prolonged power outage.
